Having issues with my 9.9J (2021). Not happy at idle/low revs. I've had the carb off and cleaned myself a few times, and also gave it to a guy here who has an ultrasonic tank which he put it through. Unfortunately the idle (pilot) jet is stuck in and we can't get it out, so there may well be debris in there that is causing the issue. However, the carb is also missing the check valve (see attached picture), it probably fell out at some point when I was cleaning.
My question is, what is the purpose of the check valve? And what is the purpose of the other part I have highlighted in my picture (named as a 'starter rod' in the Yamaha part diagram)?My father has an 8hp Yamaha roughly the same age which doesn't have the part on its carburettor.
