  • 1999 F25 Not Running

    Hello,

I recently acquired a project boat with a 1999 F25 Four Stroke. It was not running, however, we checked the plugs and the battery, and we were getting power and spark. I pulled the carb off as it had been sitting for a few years. The carb was very dirty, so I soaked it in carb cleaner for 24 hours. This worked a little, but not great. I then had the carb ultrasonically cleaned. Once I put the carb back on, the boat ran great while hooked up to muffs and a hose.

Yesterday, I took it out to the lake to ride around. It took a little bit to get started, but once started, it did not want to run more than 5 or 10 mph. If I gave it full throttle, the engine would bog down and cut off. It would turn back on with the help of choking it, however, it finally did not. I pulled the cover off and noticed that when squeezing the fuel ball and then trying to start the engine, fuel would leak from the bottom of the carb. Additionally, the fuel ball would never stay hard.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it flooding? Should I order a carb rebuild kit? Should I buy a OEM new carb? Should I buy a knockoff carb?

    Thank you!

I am not sure how fuel could leak from the bottom of the carb unless you failed to close a drain screw, but I am not familiar with this 4 stroke
