  • wiring harness

The wiring harness for my 2008 150 TXR (2 stroke) is much too long. The motor was rigged on my 1986 BW Outrage 18' many years ago with a set of Yamaha analogue gauges by a dealer in Ft Myers. Under the centre console the excess wire harness is coiled up and zip-tied - my guess is that there is at least 10' of excess which occupies valuable storage space in the centre console.

My question is: is this (or was this) wiring harness available in a shorter length? From a current Yamaha parts list for my motor, the wiring harness is listed as Yamaha Part # 64D-82590-20-00. The parts diagram does not show this harness as available in different lengths, nor does it indicate the actual length of this part. Also, I think this might be an obsolete part, which obviously does not help, but I can see some used ones on ebay, etc.

I can't directly answer your question... but can it be tied up better or secure it better to be out of the way - can't it be tied up to something higher in the compartment like the steering?

Or... cut the wires and splice them back together? Spliced properly, there would be no degradation/issues whatsoever.

looking at that part number on line shows it to be the wiring harness that is attached to everything on the motor its self, not the 10 pin harness that plugs into the motors harness and goes to the controls and gauges

look at a rigging guide for your motor and controls

Have you no idea what type of control box that you have?

it would be nice if people asking questions would read and respond to the post every day or 2.

boscoe did you look up that part number he posted?

Yes. That is the main engine harness. OP is talking about a ten pin harness, a trim/oil harness or the oil harness. I guess.

but his part number does not match what he is talking about, so that is a major problem for him to find what he is looking for.
maybe he will eventually figure it out if he thinks hard enough about what he is doing

sorry for the delayed reply. The wiring harness part number that I listed corresponds to the parts diagram for my motor, which is a 150 TXR, 2008 model year. The drawing of the wiring harness in the Yamaha parts manual resembles the wire harness I would like to replace with shorter. It has more than one connector, including one that is a 10 pin (I think). The “control” is a Yamaha binnacle mount, I think it is a 704 Yamaha control.

The boat is 100 km away from me now, next time I visit if I will verify the above information.

                Thanks for your help.

As noted, 64D-82590-20-00 is the main engine wire harness on a 2008 150TXR model. But the primary ten pin connector ends on the motor itself.

If there is too much wiring under the console then the ten pin wire harness that connects to the motor at one end and the control box/key switch at the other end is possibly too long.

The ten pin harness comes in different lengths. Seems that you need a different ten pin harness and not a main engine harness.
