    2013 4stroke 9.9
How to test the kill button.
    Thanks

pulling the lanyard/clip off will allow the switch to close grounding the voltage so there is no spark to the spark plugs

Also pushing the button in with Lanyard in place should kill the engine. I guess that is obvious though...lol

I guess we need to know why you want to test it….to see if it works, or test if it’s faulty? It’s a simple switch, on or off, to test its operation requires a meter, then just operate the switch. To see if it’s working, as mentioned, start motor, activate switch, motor should stop.

Why I'm testing: No spark on either plug.
Next would be test the pack?
I got this motor as part of a debt. The owner says it runs GREAT!!! NOT!!

I work on bigger outboard motors and this 9.9 stumps me.
          THANKS!!!

measuring the peak voltage inputs and out puts of the CDI to make sure what is in spec and what is not requires a special meter or a DVA adapter and regular meter

So did you verify that the kill switch was indeed working by disconnecting it and testing with a multimeter looking for continuity coming and going as the switch is pushed?
With the kill switch disconnected there should be spark and engine will run but you won't be able to shut it off in the normal fashion.

I am assuming that this 9.9 just has the kill switch and no key on it or hooked up to a remote key??

Mystery of the internet. Folks being inextremely reluctant to disclose the complete model of their motor.

Panasonic, No key just the button where the lanyard hooks.

                          Not yet.
I think I know what's wrong. The pack, maybe bad.
Waiting for test procedures for the pack/stator.

                            Kill switch is ok.
The pack is bad, replaced it and now I have spark.
                            But it still won't start????

More things to check. Choke plate is actually closing when choke knob is pulled?

Will it start if you spray a little fuel into intake?

Will it start if you remove intake tube from front of carb and totally block the carb off with your hand?

And lastly when was the carb last cleaned properly, totally disassembled, ultrasonic cleaned?

These small carbs have very tiny enrichment passages, easily plugged and not so easy to clean out.
