I just had a new 2022 F90 installed to replace my 2004 F90. I reused my old Yamaha multifunction tach. My old tach shows the hours from my 2004 motor. Is there a way to reset this to zero for my new motor?
No, sorry, there are two versions of the classic Yamaha multifunction tach;
your old tach is the "6Y5"
and the way that works, the gauge itself contains the "clock" of engine running hours;
it "has no idea" what engine it is connected to,
or how many hours that engine has run.
If you don't want to keep using the old tach
with those already-accumulated hours,
you have two choices:
- buy a new 6Y5 tach, which will start at zero when you install it
(missing however many hours are already on the new F90)
- buy a 6Y8 multifunction tach, which resembles your current tach,
but has much more capability,
including displaying the actual engine hours that the new F90 has run.
The 6Y8 tach will fit in the same hole,
but will also require some additional Yamaha wiring between it and the engine;
it uses different wiring from that used by the 6Y5
