I have an oldish 15 Yamaha 15D in fairly good nick. It starts on first pull, idles like clockwork and even pulls away on the water, but there is just not enough power to plane a small dinghy. Cleaned the carb, checked the timing & plugs, etc. I made sure fuel mix is correct (100:1) but the engine smokes quite a lot and when I start it in a tank. it foms a layer of unburned oil and fuel on the surface of the water. I'm now starting to wonder if this is not caused by a worn pilot jet ( #56 - 14342-28-00) or perhaps a worn carb? Any comments welcomed

TownsendsFJR1300 spark plugs are black and damp, but spark is good, hence my suspicion that there is too much fuel present in the cylinders
