I have an old 40hp 2stroke twin cylinder yamaha outboard.Fitted new ignition switch, matched all colours on cable to switch, will not switch off. Previously just had a push button start switch with no way of turning engine off. Can you help?
When you turn the key to the off postion you are grounding out the ignition circut. You have to have the ignition wire and a ground wire to the switch. When you turn the switch to the off postion it sends the ignition circut to ground. I hope this helps.
