  • Filter on the Idle Speed Control

Boscoe are there any Yamaha recommendations about the vacuum filter on the bottom of the Idle Speed Control and if it needs to be replaced. I don't see it mentioned on my service manual other than disassembling the ISC.

I looked at your SM and a later SM and there is no mention of servicing the filter at any specific interval.

No mention either as to how a motor might malfunction if and when the filter is dirty.

          what an interesting part
          unique to the ("early") F115?
and then seems ~2011 the IAC valve itself changed - and the filter went away?

Maybe the 2011 and later has an internal filter?

it is tied into I think the intake manifold and the throttle body would have impurities coming in it so would it not at some point become clogged and affect the vacuum readings that the ISC has?

my guess is no better than yours...

all I know is, nothing like that on my F90, or F225:
the IAC is free to suck in whatever dirt it can find.

I have expressed before; the inside stories of the Yamaha Outboard Engineering Dept would make an interesting read...

                It's only $20....

You may inspect it, (if you can see inside), or just replace it...

Much cheaper than a new ISC if the ISC sucks up crap...

Interesting indeed. No idea such a thing existed.

When I first started investigating this boating thing I was surprised that these outboards had no air filters. Pretty clean air out on the water. One exception might be a windstorm on a lake in the desert.

                  A Haboob...

We do run them all the time when flushing etc. and that would not necessarily be clean air. Air out on the lake even though it looks clean I am sure has dust and other junk in it that we just don't see.

That also may be a reason they possibly were done away with in later years?
But again for $20 It won't hurt my pocket book.

Is it discolored? Post pics. Unless the virus wrecked that too.

No I haven't taken it off yet, to cold here now for working out there. It may wait until I winterize it or even later. I need to store it and replace the water pump etc. may do it then.

I haven't tried posting a pic since the virus hit, It is really interesting because my Norton message said it was blocked so if things don't work it almost has to be on this websites end. sent them an email and of course no response yet?

The ISC valve with the filter is used on the F/LF115TLR/TXR models. They use four separate throttle valves.

The LF/F115XA models use a different ISC valve. The XA and now XB models use a single throttle valve.
