If you order online they will send the latest version.

The part I ordered online was a -00

              And I got this...

Of course I knew 04 was the latest but nevertheless

I just punched in that number in the pic above.
                    It popped up correctly....

                    Doesn't mean they always do...

Yamaha US is simply updating their part numbers faster than some/most online dealers can keep up. I suspect that Yamaha is updating their part number in real time whereas online dealers probably "batch" process part number updates.

Simplest, and perhaps best, way is to order the part number that is called for in the parts catalog for a specific engine. By engine serial number. If the production part number has been superseded then the latest part number will be provided.

If someone orders a later part number dash number there is always a chance that it might not be the correct part number. Sometimes a later dash number part number is issued but it is not the correct part number for an earlier model motor. For instance, an F225TXRC came with a -10-00 ECU. The superseded part number for the F225TXRC is a -11-00. However, the latest ECU part number for an F225TXR is a -33-00. If someone orders the latest and greatest F225TXR part number (the -33-00) it is not the correct part number for the F225TXRC.

Just order what the parts catalog says to order. Yamaha USA makes it easy. Put the serial number of a particular motor into the search box in the parts catalog look up section. It will take you to the correct parts catalog. Order what the parts book says to order. If that part number has been updated you will get it.

                            Not that I know of.

What I would do is to find the part at the Yamaha USA site and then copy and paste it into the boats.net search box. Then add that part number to my cart.

Another issue that might arise is if and when a part is shown as obsolete at the boats.net website. A call to Yamaha should be made to see if there is a replacement part available. Sometimes Yamaha US data is not fed into the dealers part number data base. It is a problem at Yamaha's end. Yamaha sometimes knows stuff that they don't tell everyone. Why tell everyone about it if there is only one out of a billion that cares?

Of course when calling Yamaha US it might be hit or miss as to who gets on the phone. A new guy is not going to know squat. Then it is a matter if he cares to go and find out an answer, good or bad, or if he just blows the caller off.
