  • F9.9 fuel pump

Yamaha has upgraded the fuel pump on my F9.9 (1999 model) MLHX and it now has a couple of other hoses but no installation instructions, so it isn't like what I've removed. Wondering if I might get an expanded diagram showing where those hoses connect? Thanks for your help. Internet and You Tube search isn't doing anything but wasting hours...again.

It is water cooled, the water comes from your
    tell tail line.

Did you receive part number 99999-03273-00? If so, that is a "kit".

Does your pump look like the one in the illustration below?

A fuel cooler had been integrated into the fuel pump. Use the cooler or not. Your choice.

Oh, look at the parts catalog for a later model F9.9, say for example an F9.9MSH, and it will show you the hose routing.

It does look like that, but part number is 6G8-24410-05.
I thought the bottom outlet might go overboard (tell tale). Is that correct, where the other is now?
The one on the left (22) then would take the place of the tell tale line?

            Yes that is right.

Looking at the fuel pump from behind the engine. Water goes in the top L/H side (you will need #22 hose) and out the bottom L/H side and overboard (you may be able to use the original tell tale hose)

Here is a picture of a F15 with a very similar setup.

Hope I did not confuse you....

How did you come to purchase the -05-00 part number?

The part number for your model F9.9MLHX is 6G8-24410-03-00. Had you placed an order for the -03-00 it would have superceded to part number 99999-03273-00, which as I said is a kit. Perhaps the kit would have had installation instructions with it. Together will all of the other parts needed to make the configuration change to the motor.

Kits are usually cheaper to reconfigure a motor than is buying all of the piece parts.

Never seen a water cooled fuel pump before, not much call for them at latitudes of 52 degrees. I assume there is a little heat exchanger in there, if this corroded through then could you not get water and crap in the fuel downstream of the fuel filter?

Could you not return the pump and get the kit instead?

Are you replacing the pump because it is causing you trouble?

If so, why not install the new pump and just blank off the water ports and be done with it...like Bosceo already suggested.
