  • 2005 Yamaha F40 Accelerator Pump Question

    Greetings,

Decided to do the dreaded F40 carb takedown/cleaning as I'm having a good bit of hesitation/dying when accelerating, and I don't think the carbs have ever been cleaned (I purchased the boat 2 years ago, not sure about previous owner). I plan on swapping to the F25 jets as i've seen recommended. I've seen mentioned about the accelerator pumps and checking them to see if they are spraying, can someone enlighten me on this process ? What/where (a photo would be great) am I looking at/for ? in Short, What's being called the accelerator pump ? I've also seen mention of drilling out plugs and backing out idle screws, is this necessary ? Again, any photos or video of this process? Relatively coherent mechanically, just thought I'd ask someone with experience in this process.

Also, on the bottom of the stack of 3 carburetors, connected to the bottom of the linkage is a rod that goes into a "bulb" about the diameter of a quarter. If you manually push the rod in, you hear air moving. This rod has been "sluggish" as of late (when it decompresses, it doesn't just pop right out, thus resulting in a delayed high idle), any ideas or recommendations ?

Ethanol gas is a possibility, but again, can't guarantee as I don't know any service history prior to me owning. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
