need to find out if the filter needs to have a check valve in it to keep the filter from draining when motor is turned off,
some do, from what I have heard -
just painstaking Googling of the details of each manufacturer's spec
IMO the "critical" parameters are dimensions -
obviously the canister has to fit, the thread size and gasket has to match
anti-drain back valve and bypass valve are pretty standard
although - IMO - not critical anyway - in my engine
nor do I give much thought to the "filter media";
I "baby" the engine, but change the oil (and filter) anyway every 100 hours -
so I don't figure the oil filter has much work to do
and I'm old enough to remember when there were many autos on the road
that did not even have an oil filter....Comment
