    Hi all, so I have a 2003 yamaha txrb 130hp. So about a month ago the boat would be hard to start and if it did start it would stall after 2-3 seconds.I realized I had water Mixed in the gas. so I took both carbs apart and cleaned them out and the boat runs good besides when it's in neutral or very low rpms in gear. When I have it over say 1500 rpms it runs great. I don't know if I screwed up some how putting them back together or if it's something else. Would there be any way to test if there's a leak coming from the carb without taking them off? And if that's not the problem, what else should I take a look at? It's pretty frustrating docking the boat and have it stall every time lol. any help would be great and I really appricate guys. Thanks

    You can drain the carbs by pulling the bowl drain plugs-catch what comes out to examine. You can also squeeze the primer bulb to flush and see what comes out..

    Did you fully drain the fuel tank to get rid of the water? Flush the rest of the system(fuel lines, etc) before hooking back up to the carbs?

    I gather you changed out all fuel filters (under cowl and elsewhere if equipped).

    You may want to consider mounting a fuel / water separator BEFORE the engine
    for future use.

      did you follow the link and sync procedure in the service manual when you put the carbs back on?

      Did you clean and flush the tank and lines before hooking up to the clean carbs.
      stuff can hide in them and plug things up when it hits the carbs

        When you take the carbs off how does the link and sync get out of whack? Why do you have to sync them every time the carb comes off? Also is the link and sync procedure making sure the valves open and close the same time? Thank you

            You don't have intake and exhaust valves, you have a two stroke engine:

            Your syncing the carbs /timing to make sure their all opening at the same time, the butterflys are ALL SET at the same angle. Timing being set properly is also critical.

            As for re-syncing, there's usually just a little bit of play with carb mounting, (slop with mounting bolts), etc. If their off, (timing too) it'll cause issues.

            Does it take that long to sync them??

            **You also didn't answer if you drained the carbs, fuel pump, after re-assembly, should crap have been pumped back into the engine after the carb cleaning***

              I meant butterfly valves...yes I did empty lines and fuel tank.my question was why when you take off the carbs you have to Lynx and sync then every time? How do the butterflies get out of whack when you take off carbs? Thank you

                I believe Mr Townsend already answered your question in his post...but I will try again.

                When you take the carbs off for maintenance and put them back on again, they don't go back on EXACTLY where they came off...due to the play in the mounting bolt holes.

                The butterflies in the carbs need to open and close together as precisely as possible so the engine will run smooth, especially at idle and low rpm. There is a procedure in the service manual to carry this out using the adjustable linkage between the carb sets on your engine.

                Yes you will need to do this each and every time you remove the carbs... unless you are lucky enough to put them back on exactly where you took them off...you are not that lucky.

                Do you have a service manual?

                I assume the engine ran smooth at low rpm BEFORE you took the carbs off?
