  • 1993 200txrr lower unit replacement

    Hi

I took my lower unit into the shop because i noticed gear oil on my driveway coming from behind the prop. I pulled the prop and could see it leaking out of the seal, no fishing line or anything there.

I got the call today that the lower unit is basically toast. They told me they replaced the seals up top because they were leaking too under the water pump, and that the carrier had to come out because they pressure tested it again and it was only holding 5 psi. They got the carrier out after a few hours of work and said that the dog clutches were bad, and that the shift gears were worn pretty badly. I had no problems besides the leak, but i did notice a lot of metal on the plug when i checked the oil. He told me the inside of the case had a lot of corrosion, but the prop shaft has groves but they aren't terrible. He said he couldn't recommend working on it anymore because its already at $750 in labor and parts. He said he felt bad for the news but didn't think it was worth fixing and to find either a new lower unit or find a good used one.

    So, here i am looking for a lower unit. Will a 1997 v6 200 fit mine? I know I need a 25 inch shaft 1.86:1 ratio.

this is the listing 97 Yamaha V6 200HP 25" gear case lower unit right hand turn

    Thank you

you realy really need to find a real shop.
    7 hours+ to simply disassemble a unit??????????

I looked into SEI, but theres a lot of reviews from people with big heavy boats with a single engine that have problems. I have a 240 proline with a single 200 on it.

I am thinking that a good used lower unit will work for me, i planned on repowering at some point to either a 250 or 300 at some point.

I just want to find a lower unit and make sure that is compatible.

      Thank you

        A 1997 S200TXRV gear case will plug and play with a 1993 200TXRR. Both have a 1.86:1 gear ratio.

Can't help you as I am in FL.
But as stated, it should be a plug and play.

I actually got referred to a place by the Dealer, he told me he couldn't in good faith sell me a new replacement for $2600. He told me there is a place about .5 miles down from him that sells parts that he deals with a lot. Went there and found a used lower for $700 that will be warrantied for a year, and have new water pump, oil, and pressure tested for OEM unit. I figured I can't beat that because its the same warranty as a new one and I can take it back if there is issues.
