  • hand cranking

Hi, I have a 70 2 stroke yamaha that I think it seized up on me, I try turning it with socket and seems pretty stiff, after a couple turns it turns freely pretty easy, leave it for a couple of days and it's hard to turn again, keep trying and free again. anyone know what could be the cause?

Remove spark plugs and then try to turn motor to determine if stiffness is compression related....

        Follow YAM suggestion.

A few years ago I had exactly the same problem on my 30 3 cyl.
The problem was on lower unit.
Had water instead of gear oil and seized the bearings

Did you remove the plugs before trying to turn it?

if lower unit removal did not help then you will have to take it apart to see what is wrong.
bearings or pistons and cylinders are messed up is my guess
