  • 200hp HPDI engine steam, and miss

One of my two HPDI 2 stroke 200hp motors is pushing steam (not oil smoke) out of idle exhaust, at the dock. Changed both thermostats, and checked head temp with infrared pyrometer. No apparent issue. Help! Also, same engine appears to be missing in Drive, at about 900 rpm or so, when running on 6 cylinders. Help! Again!

Also, I pulled all 6 plugs, and they all look the same. A little sooty and slightly oily, but not one any different from the rest...... And I should add that this is relative to the starboard engine....which idles/runs great, with no steam/smoke from the exhaust....................... Thanks again, all....ANY ADVICE or INSIGHT would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks. I've been on a number of forums (motorcycles, etc) and this is the first thread I've had disappear.. and I think we had over 1100 views, and many comments, advice, etc.

I am sure it was too much trash on the old one and people reported it.

Just hope Rodbolt posts again and see if he can help.

post your steam pics again and was there bubbles from exhaust in the thread too?
show what the plugs look like might help also.

I have to wonder if there is water getting into the combustion cambers

              Welllllllllllllll, lets try this again!!

Here are the links to the three (3) videos of the steaming and bubbling.

I have a photo of the spark plugs I'll load later as well. But as I said in the original thread....all 12 plugs looks equivalent.....for a pair of 2 strokes. somewhat sooty and slightly oily,...but none of the wet or steam-cleaned....

All of the plugs on both motors looking the same?
seems like the one with steaming would be different if something was really going on.

but I am not a tech or master tech like Rodbolt

and again were there bubbles like I think I read from the other post about coming only out of the steaming motors exhaust at prop

Just added a pic of the six (6) plugs from the steaming Port engine.... the six (6) from the Starboard motor look the same, pretty much...

And, compression on all 6 cylinders measure between 110-120 psi....

and, yep, significant bubbles on the steaming Port engine, coming from the prop.... (this is ALL at idle..about 600 rpm).

After the oddest Thread Deletion, I have updated and restored the 3 videos (above) and a single pic of the 6 sparkplugs from the troubled engine. Thanks much for your help..

Not sure what else anyone can add. Time to drop the lower unit and start exploring.

I will post a larger pic so hopefully Rodbolt will have a look and respond on the spark plugs.

I was wondering if the plugs show signs of burning water.

Rodbolt, what do you think about his plugs and the steam out of the idle relief port on only one of his motors?
