  • Ignition Coil Fuse

This weekend I blew the 30A Ignition Coil Fuse on my 2016 SHO 225. I changed it out and everything seems to be fine. Is this a sign of a larger problem or one time thing? Talked to another guy who had that happen on his 250 and he changed it out and never had another problem. That was 2 years ago. Looking for similar experiences. Thanks.

Was there something being done to the boat/motor when this happened?
seems strange that something would pull to much current and then go away, unless someone shorted across some connections/wires by accident.

Nope, was just trying to re-start to trailer the boat on Sunday after a full day of fishing. The alarm came on and engine would turn over and not start. Guy on another forum told me to check the fuse and that is what it was.

hopefully someone will know something on this, I have no idea what would cause it and then go away.
did the fuse holder seem loose( bad connection between fuse and connectors)?
I guess that could cause heat build up and melt the fuse element

My mechanic said it would be the first he has seen with the SHO so he was stumped. That has me a little nervous He said to carry some extra fuses and if it happens again to bring it in to the shop. He said could of just been a loose or bad fuse.

Plus 1 if it got hot.

Check the wires going to that fuse for any looseness or corrosion. I gather the fuse fits snugly?

You may (just for yourself), crank it up on muffs, and jiggle/move about the harness some to try and duplicate the issue.

Also, your mechanic may want to test the coil itself for any irregularities.. See if it's pulling too much amps thus popping the fuse..
