I recently purchased a 2000 Grady White with a 2002 f225 4stroke. Everything works perfect except I noticed that it was idling 1,100-1,200 RPM. It doesn't stutter or surge, plenty of power and tops out fine. Rpm does not change even after the engine has warmed up. The Dealer I bought from said they replaced the thermostat and impeller. They said that there were no error codes before I purchased the boat, but I am taking that with a grain of salt as they had a dealer license but purchased and sold boats out of a small warehouse( no storefront). Could this be some sort of sensor? Is a link and sync needed for this engine, or is that for 2troke engines? I'm located in the Tampa area, anyone know of a good mechanic?

would a decarb with seafoam help clean the ias valve? -
I would not think so.
If you want to clean the ISC valve, easy enough to remove three small screws

first off DO NOT shift gears at 1200 rpm unless you wish to buy a gear case when repairing the motor.
do a google search for Yamaha dealer locator.
use that function to locate a dealer in your area that employs a master tech.
any sensor failure will throw a code and cause the idle to be in the 1100 range.
if the ISC valve was left unplugged after T stst replacement it will idle high with no code.
no code for ISC.
the 02 Fv6 motors had several safety recalls for throttle linkage.
make sure yours was done.Comment

Thanks for the pics fairdeal. Bad sensor was what I was afraid of rodbolt, I'll check to make sore it's plugged in and and check for carbon buildup. I'll call the dealer and see if my linkage was done. Does a local marine mechanic not have the correct software and equipment to diagnose the problem, or is it a complicated motor that you would only trust a master tech to work on? Overall motor looks in great condition, I was told original owner kept boat up north and brought down for the season every year. The seller told me that the boat hadn't been used for a few months, that's why I figured maybe something was sticking. Thanks for the replies.Comment

If it were "stuck" I don't know what one would do beside soak it -
and I wouldn't do that for fear of harming the electrical portion.
If it is operating normally, you will hear a brief "clicking" / "chatter"sound from it after you shut the engine down.Comment

I started engine and was able to hear multiple clicks in rapid secession . The guy I bought from said he just replaced water pump and thermostats . Trying sea foam now to see if that does anything.Comment

need to see which sensor has failed and do not be shifting with that high idle as rodbolt mentioned
have you checked on the linkage yet?
was the clicking at turning the motor off?

Ya sorry I heard the clicks immediately after turning engine off. I'm going to take to the shop on Thursday. Does it need to be a master technician? Anyone have any recommendations on where to go?Comment

as a master tech I can tell you it is at least 6 week long training sessions and an intense test that has about an 80% fail rate.

Thanks to all, prob going in on Sunday. I'll update with findings. Something knew I noticed was that it's not peeing when hooked up with ear muffs. I attached one garden hose to the flush line and the other to the earmuffs. Engine ran cool with no pee. I took off hose attachment and engine started getting hot but no temp alarm went off. Going to dip The boat and trailer in the river and see if water comes out when submerged. I never ran it on muffs before. Every time I took it in salt water I would stop by the hillsborough river and dunk the boat and trailer in fresh water and run the salt out. I took apart the lower unit and and the impeller is brand new. a tiny piece of the fin had broken off, but didn't seem damaged other than that.Last edited by gradytampa; 03-28-2017, 09:15 PM.Comment
