  • Yamaha 28hp (AE)

So I recently bought a Yamaha 28hp outboard. It's my first experience with outboards, I'm completely new to boating. I know, I'm mad.
Luckily I have experience working on cars, and I am studying automotive engineering so I have a good understanding on how an engine works. The problem I'm really faced with it finding parts and information

My engine is from the late seventies, and it seems almost impossible to find parts. Tomorrow I'm going to phone up every Yamaha dealer in my country to see what they have but I don't expect much. I managed to find an impeller, anode, thermostat and a few seals and gaskets online but that's as far as it goes.

I haven't started work on the engine yet, but it hasn't run for three years. I'm looking for advice on where to find parts for my engine, and where to find a manual because that's also seems impossible.

Your local Yamaha dealer must provide you some parts for that motor (some parts may be obsolete is my guess) or send me a PM with your email and I'll send you the parts list

      Where are you located?

      UK is my guess

So this is the number I find on the engine:

It looks different than the serial number plates I see in photo's on the internet, but that's all I can find.

I have found an original parts list, the problem is that googling some parts numbers like for the waterpump kit (664-W0078-01) didn't bring up anything.

I really hope the Yamaha dealers can help me out but I fear most parts will be discontinued.

I am from Belgium, so calling all the Yamaha dealers won't take long as there are only 10 or so.

664 is the prefix for 1975 thru 1979 25 HP and 28 HP two stroke Yams.

W0078 is the base number for a water pump kit. The complete kit number, if there is one, would be 664-W0078-00-00.

Get Mr. Almetelo to send you his parts list and then go from there. You can search this website (click the red Yamaha logo above) to do a part number search.

I see that a USA Yamaha C25ELD uses a number of 664 prefix part numbers. Some are shown as still being available. It might also turn out that a number of parts used on this model may also work on your specific model.
