  • Zink trim tab

I have twin 150 Yamahas and just purchased trim tabs for them. The left hand engine tab looks exactly the same except part number and a letter L. It cost $10 more from boats.Net. Does anyone know why this is the case. Thinking next time to just order the cheaper ones.

What type (model) of 150? Carb'd two stroke, EFI two stroke, HPDI two stroke, F four stroke, VF four stroke???

Counter rotating motors usually have different geometry trim tabs than do regular rotation motors.

Counter rotation trim tabs are made in the hundreds. Regular rotation trim tabs are made in the millions. Stands to reason that lesser made parts cost more.

You can try a regular rotation trim tab on your counter rotation motor and see if it matters to you or not. Actually, with twins, you can cut the fin portion completely off and maybe not feel any difference.

      now on another forum,

we'd probably see a response claiming that the electrons flow differently on a counterrotating engine
and that requires an anode with a special alloy....

At which time a violent argument would ensue as to which direction electrons (or holes thereof) flow. And then there is one that I know of who would have to describe the construction of all batteries types in order to get his message across concerning said electrons. Folks would also start arguing that Evinrude electrons are superior to Yamaha electrons and vice versa.

Actually, it is pretty calm and quiet over here if we just ignore the fact that a switch can be a sensor.

                Trim Tab

I figured it out. My mechanic and I serviced my boat yesterday and I asked him the question. At first he didn't know but then said it probably has reverse or opposite contour and sure enough it did. The curvature of the bottom of the tab was the opposite direction than the right hand engine. But still $10 MORE.
