  • 2003 225 outboard oil alarm flashing

I was cruising home yesterday at 4200 RPM and had overheat and oil alarm go off. Audible and flashing bar above the oil symbol on gauge.
I shut off starboard motor and alarms went off and then *****ed in to dock.
The motor was hot and checking oil level it was only down a inch on stick, I added some and restarted. The oil light flash was gone.
I slowly left the marina to get home and only went up to 1800 RPM, the flasher alarm over the oil can came back on. I again turned off motor and *****ed on the port motor. After about 10 min I re-started starboard and kept at 1000 RPM and made it back 3 miles to service dock.

Can hot motor cause oil alarm? We could not get alarm or flashing symbol at the dock.. any ideas .. Thank you.
Were planning to test oil pressure..but they say the oil pumps never go in these Yamaha motors..

Find out what is causing it to overheat and measure oil pressure.

I have never heard of a overheat causing oil pressure alarm to sound before

Thank you, I will discuss with mechanic. Hoping it is not oil pump.

How old is the water pump impeller?

Well as it turns out, low oil sensor went out... no overheat codes.
The harness is good but sensor tested bad... water pump impeller will be done next big service.. Thank you all for advice.. Tom

Sounds like you were mistaken about an overheat indicator showing up along with the oil pressure.

This is why I asked, just to be sure the gauges showed an overheat.
