  • compatible rigging 1998 C60 to 2015 F70LA

I'm looking in to upgrading to a new 4-stroke F70 from my 2-stroke C60, but I want to keep the rigging costs to a minimum. Which controls/gauges/wiring can I keep with the new engine? I currently have the OEM harness with a Yamaha 704 Binnacle and one of the round digital tachometer gauges (not sure exactly which part number) and new throttle/shift control wires. Would those work with the new motor? What else should I be looking for? If I need a new wiring harness (likely), I would like to find one on eBay or Amazon. What part numbers should I be looking for?

I plan to remove my old C60 and wire up as much as possible prior to having the Yamaha technician do the rigging. I have rigged the C60 last year, so I am familiar with the basics. As I want the warranty upheld, I definitely want a pro to do the main rigging on the new motor.

My boat is a 2000 A/B Inflatable 4.50VST - about 15ft with a small center console and a deep v hull. The transom plate states a max 75HP motor.

Thanks for all the advice in advance...
    Steve

    bump...
I don't want to incur unexpected/unreasonable costs after dropping $7,500 on a new motor.

    Thanks

If the 704 control box uses a ten pin harness (has trim and tilt button) then it will work with the F70. Same with the key switch panel.

Given the age of the control cables you might want to install new ones.

      I don't see a 1998 two stroke tachometer working with a four stroke F70.

When it comes to gauges you have your choice of less expensive analog needle and dial type, more expensive analog digital display multi-function type and then even more expensive digital digital display (Command Link) types (round/square/rectangular).

Here is a Yam book that shows some of what is available. Decide what you want and then we can talk.

        Thanks Boscoe99,
I just replaced the cables from the 704 a couple months ago. Looks like they'll be good.
My gauge was bought late last year (used), so it is a newer gauge. Mine is an analog digital with a single square connector. It seems to be in excellent condition, but I never got the tilt/trim set up right with the motor. It has the settings in the back for 2 or 4 stroke. I guess I would need that adaptor cable.

So the gauge adaptor and main harness may be all that is needed. I'll probably buy the harness and feed it to the console to save a few $$ from the rigging.

Thanks again Boscoe99. I'm sure I'll have more I'll have more questions as I get closer to the purchase (still have to sell at least one of my motors in the garage)

        Cheers,
        Steve

The tachometer with the single nylon connector is for a 2005 or later motor. Given that the F70 is later than 2005 the tachometer should plug and play with the motor. No adapter harness needed.

            My bad....
I had to check again when you mentioned 2005 or newer (since it works on my 1998)

The gauge has the double square connectors. Would that work with an adaptor?

            Thanks,
            Steve
