F 250 temperature light stays on

    F 250 temperature light stays on

    I recently had the oil pressure sensor replaced on a 2007 F250. Since the oil pressure sensor was replaced the temperature light stays on. The light comes on when the ignition switch is turned on and does not go out. There are no indications of overheating. Engine runs and operates normally. Water coming out side of engine etc. The oil pump and water pump were replaced last year.

    Does the temperature light share a ground with the oil pressure sensor?
    Could the oil pressure sensor be cross wired? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    When you say light are you talking about one of the two lights on a Yamaha analog tachometer?

    I am struggling to come up with any connection between the oil pressure sensor and the temperature warning light. The sensor feeds oil pressure data to the ECU. Based on that data the ECU provides a ground to the oil pressure light to illuminate it if and when needed. Via a separate wire the ECU provides a ground to the over temperature light to illuminate it. But the ECU gets over temperature information from separate sources (either switches or a different sensor).

    If the warning horn is not sounding and if the engine is operating normally (not in RPM reduction mode) then I would presume a wiring issue between the motor and the light.

      when you say lights.
      is it two separate lights like found on some bass type boats wwith non Yamaha gauges or the indicates on a Yamaha tach?
      if Yamaha is it analog,6y5 digital or command link?

        A light is a light is a light. Or maybe not.

        This stuff is like a puzzle. Lets see if we can come up with an answer having as little information to go on as possible. "My motor is buzzing. What is the problem?"

        I saw where a guy on Wheel of Fortune guessed the correct answer with only one letter showing. Maybe he can answer the buzzing problem. I can't.

          The boat has analogue guages, I would guess Yamaha.

          The boat has round analogue gauges. One of the gauges has two red indicator lights, one for oil and one for temperature. The temperature light never goes off. It comes on when the key is turned on and remains on until the key is turned off. It has done this since the oil pressure sensor was replaced. Just wondering if there is some connection.

            my guess would be the tach is set for two stroke and not 4 stroke.

              I am failing to see a connection between the oil pressure senor and the over temperature light. Could be just a random issue.

              You are going to have to check the wiring from the motor to the gauge for the presence of a ground. Start with disconnecting the connector in the engine pan for the wire harness that runs to the gauge. Check the terminals to the pink wire with a black tracer for the presence of a ground on the engine side connector. There should not be any. If there is a ground let us know.

              If no ground on the engine side connector then well and good. Move to the connector on the harness side. Check the terminals for the presence of a ground. Should not be any. If you find one then you know it is not an engine problem. It is a boat wiring issue.

              If none of this makes sense to you then you will need to have your mechanic resolve the issue.

                and if the tach is set for two stroke the temp lamp lights and stays lit.

                  If a Yam Pro Series I don't think it has a two stroke/four stroke adjustment.

                  Again, we don't have all of the information available. I am working with maybe two letters here.

                    More info and pictures

                    I couldn't remember if the gauges were Yamaha or not. I went down to the marina and too some photo's. The oil and temperature light comes on when the ignition is switched on. After a few seconds the oil light goes out but temperature light remains on.

                    I had the dealer download the hours and error codes when the oil sensor was replaced. The only error showing was the oil pressure sensor. I don't know if the download was done before or after the oil pressure sensor was replaced. I plan to return to the dealer for repair but wanted to be a little informed before I did. The temperature light never did this before the oil pressure sensor was replaced.

                      Attached diagnostic printout PDF

                      Thought this might be helpful. I have tried to post a PDF file I scanned of the diagnostics but I don't think I was successful. Computer says it was uploading the file. Maybe it has to be screened before it'll post. Okay I had to change to jpg file

                        brown wire touching pink wire

                        This turned out to be a short behind the instrument panel on the boat. The brown wire was in contact with the pink wire. I had been working there installing a GPS. Must have moved something. Thanks everyone for all the advice.
