Is the coolant sensor 688-83591-00 compatible with a 1994 txrs 200 hp. engine ?

Yes, the part number you reference is compatible with a 1994 200TXRS. If you want to find it on this website use the complete number 688-83591-00-00.

Had this bright idea that I would like to install a temp gauge on this old motor

It's a good size bolt m14x1.5 I have to remove first before the install.

seems to be stuck real good using moderate torque.

Any suggestions ? Heat? or forget about needing a temp gauge ?

I like gauges. Don't think there can be too many of them.

More torque is what is needed.

remember that plug on the top stbd head is stainless.
there is a fair chance of pulling out the AL threads when removing it.
Teleflex makes a kit that wont require pulling that plug.

myself if I had to pull the plug heat and lots of it would be used.

Was looking to put a cheap temp gauge on my cheap boat.

Would that Yamaha sensor work an aftermarket gauge or would the resistance be different?

if you buy the Yamaha gauge your going to have to also buy the Yamaha sender.
same if you purchase individual parts from Teleflex or other aftermarket stuff.
your motor did not leave the factory with a coolant temp sender for driving a temp gauge.

I have the Yamaha sender. Compatibility with an aftermarket gauge is what I'm asking.

                  I would doubt it. But...

It is hard to find resistance/temperature curves with which to compare compatibility. Yamaha does not publish curves. Other folks do however. For instance:

                  http://www.nsifleet.com/pdf/Temperat...tanceChart.pdf

                  https://www.google.com/search?q=temp...7kNx5TcooaM%3A

Now what you can do is to create your own curve. Put the Yamaha sender in a pot of water. There needs to be a thermometer also in the water. Don't let either touch the bottom of the pot. Measure and record the resistance of the sender with the water at 40 degrees F. Then do it at 50 degrees F. Then 60, 70, 80, etc. all the way to about 200 degrees.

Once you have your Yamaha curve see if you can find an aftermarket gauge that uses a sender with the curve values that you recorded.

                  Capiche?

                    Yes, good idea.

What is a normal degree reading F. on a 200hp txrs 2 stroke?

                      That is anyone's guess.

Based on my F200 it was in the neighborhood of about 145 degrees F when the motor was fully warmed up.
