  • oil leak from my yamaha 80 hp engine

    hi, Guys
I got a 2001 Yamaha outboard 80 hp engine ( F80TLRZ ), it has a leak of oil from drive shift bar all the way to the bottom of lower casing.
also, In oil change when I put new oil on I can see the new oil is coming down from the drive shift.
Please anyone can tell me what is the problem?

Possibly it is the oil pump seal. I presume that when you say you see clean oil down the drive shaft that it is after the motor has been run for a period of time. On a 14 year old motor it might be time for new seals.

I left Valencia in 1991. Have not been back. I was told I would not recognize the place today. It was a great place to live due to the weather. Where do you boat? Piru, Pyramid, Castaic, Ojai, the ocean or ??? Froze my ass in the morning and was blistered in the hot sun by 1400 hours.

      thank you for replying.
when I put new oil has a leak before run the engine and after too.
My questions is when I put new oil I can see the leak of oil without running the engine? how is possible?

I go to Castaic lake, and Pyramid lake.
and Valencia has been change just litter bit, more peoples, houses and new streets.
also, still the weather is very nice lot of sun and winds..

A seal apparently failed, oil is simply going right past it via gravity...

Could be a seal problem or a cracked/corrosion hole in the oil pan, or a gasket.

Need to take apart to find out where it is leaking
