    2005 200hp VMax FI overheating

    Need some help here. I've got a 2005, 200hp VMax FI (vx200tlrd) that overheats at mid range rpms. Any speeds below on plane are fine and 4400 -5500 rpms will not overheat. Anything in between overheats within 1 minute. Once it overheats I can slow to idle and buzzer goes off in 30 seconds or so. Thermostats are removed. Pressure relief valve is new. Complete lower unit and water pump are new. All three temp sensors have been tested and work correctly. Motor has been flushed and tell tale shows a good stream.

    The water coming out the tell tale is warm, not hot, while the buzzer is going off.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Put good stats back in.
    they need to be there to make water flow to the proper places at the proper rate

      t-stats MUST be in place or the system wont work correctly. are you SURE its an overheat? do you have Yamaha digital gauges?

        My motor is on a 2005 Ranger 190vs. It only has the ranger gauges so I don't know that it is overheat but the oil tank on the motor stays at relatively the same level. I'd assume that the oil height warning would be the most likely to go off at WOT if the main tank pump isn't pumping fast enough but I get no alarms at 4200-WOT.

        Can I get gauges that have the warning lights for the specific alarms?

          why ranger,and some others, used the finest motors with the cwappiest gauges I will never know.
          yes you can still buy the Yamaha digital guage and harness.
          do you have a jack plate? if so do you have a water pressure guage?

          there were a few bullitens on the pump cup,water intakes and T stat housings for the 3.1L motors years ago.

            I don't have a jackplate. Frankly, I doubt anything has been done to maintain the motor prior to me so anything you have, I'd be grateful.

            I do have a water pressure gauge that is stuck at 10 psi. Works from there but must have frozen at some point.

            I don't know what's available for Yamaha gauges but I'd like to have everything available for that motor.

              Boscoe can help better than I with part numbers and such. I just fix them.

              but you need to verify what is triggering the alarm.
              water detect,if equipped.
              low battery voltage.
              low engine oil tank.
              overtemp.

                Going to get the t-stats in tonight and take it for another run on the lake. I'll bring the temp gun again. What is the max temp I should see? I assume I'd measure at the head and cylinder??

                  temp switch's are on at about 183*F.
                  shoot the area around the temp switchs.
