  • Tachometer

    Hi Guys,
I got tachometer 6yr-w0035-e2-00 (maybe e1) and I don't have factory installed wire harness on my motor Selva Moray 25 4T (yamaha corporation)
8 wires coming out from tachometer:
    - to motor: pink, gray,green and green/red
    - to control box: yellow and blue are +, green and black is -
Please help me to detect which color is for what? and where to attach it in my motor. Maybe someone have manual for this tachometer or some explanation how to make wire harness on my own.
Tachometer functions: tacho signal, trim meter, hour meter, low oil alarm and overheat alarm
    thanks,

A ten or seven pin harness is used between the motor and the control box. Ten pin if the motor has power trim and tilt and seven pin if it does not.

From the control box to the gauges a small harness is used that has five wire colours. Yellow for 12 volt positive when the key is on, black for ground, red for battery power, blue for gauge lighting and green for the tachometer signal. These wires have bullet connectors on them.

From the motor to the gauge a trim & oil harness is used. It has a four pin nylon connector. It connects to the gauge at one end and to the motor at the other end. It carries the over temperature ground, low oil pressure ground and the trim signal.

Green/red is low oil pressure, gray is over temperature, pink is for the trim and the green is not used in a four stroke.

If your motor is equipped for the trim & oil harness there will be a nylon connector at the front of the engine pan.

      Boscoe99, thanks for reply.
      Tell me three more things:
      - I have oil sensor and warning light on my motor and I will connect green/red wire to that, but I don't have temperature sensor and as I know the same warning light is for both alarms. Should I connect gray wire with the same wire like oil?
      - Tachometer signal...is it yellow wire from stator on my motor?
      - which wire is for counting hours of work? and where to connect on my motor?
      Thanks,

Give me the complete identity of your motor. Should begin with the number 6.

          Selva have different numbers:
          Selva Moray 25
          F25AMH
          M.Y. 06
          2005 year

            Electric start or manual start?

            Remote con*****ed or tiller steered?

If manual start, does the motor have the capability of charging a battery?

In a previous post you provided the serial number of 151745. I am presuming there are no other numbers or letter that come if front of the serial such as 65W or 66M.

Manual start, no trim, remote con*****ed...
It doesn't have rectifier, but I have free two yellow wires coming out from stator.
Serial number of 151745 and there is no other numbers in front

Let's start with just the basic tachometer function for now. By the way, the kit number I have indicates the latest is a 6YR-W0035-E1-00 and it contains a 6Y5-8350T-83-00 tachometer. Made for 2004 and earlier Yamaha motors but it can be made to work with later year motors.

                2015_Yamaha_MRP

Connect the black and yellow wires coming from the tachometer to a battery. Black to ground and yellow to positive. The tachometer should illuminate all of the pixels briefly and then show 0 RPM.

The yellow wires are from the lighting coil. With the motor running and the tachometer connected to a battery, connect the green wire from the tachometer to one of the yellow leads from the lighting coil. See if the tachometer indicates an RPM. Be careful not to let anything get tangled up with the flywheel while doing this. Report back here with your findings.

We can then discuss getting the over temperature and low oil pressure functions on the tachometer to work.

Thanks to have patience with me.
I can't try that until tomorrow, missing proper connectors.
Short question, I have two green wires: one going to remote control and thru wire harness going to engine and the other one is connected with 4pin connector. On that connector there are green/red, gray and pink wire.
Should I connect the green going thru remote control or the other one?

The wire to the tachometer, for the tachometer RPM signal, is the green wire that is in the main electrical harness that runs from the motor to the control box. If the main electrical harness is connected to the motor try and connect the single green wire from the tachometer to the green wire that is in the main electrical harness to see what happens.

The green wire in the trim & oil harness four pin connector is not used for the tachometer signal. It is used to convey other information to the tachometer but not for the RPM function of the tachometer.

Why in hell Yamaha uses a green wire for more than one purpose is known only to them.

Unfortunately nothing happened. I tried with both yellow wires coming from the Lighting coil, tachometer was ON, but rpm stay on 0.

That makes me think you will have to connect a rectifier/regulator to the those leads in order for the tachometer to function.

How much are you willing to spend to make your tachometer work?

For this summer is not so important. Rectifier is my goal for after holidays.
Can you help me to connect other functions: hour, oil and temperature.

                            boscoe99,
Can we go on? On my motor I have pink wire going from oil sensor to alarm light...should I connect that wire with buzzer on remote control (there are two wires pink/red and yellow/red) and what color wire on tachograph?
There is temperature sensor with two wires, both brown/black...where to connect that?
Which wire on tachograph is for hour, I know that it has to be connected with some device to get signal when engine start to work.
                            Thanks,

Senka, I think the tachometer RPM function has to be working for the hour meter function to work.

The green wire with red tracer, when grounded, should cause the oil pressure icon to flash. Try it and see. I believe that the CDI applies a ground to the low oil pressure lamp to turn on the lamp. If so, maybe you can splice the green wire with the red tracer so that when the lamp illuminates the icon on the tachometer will flash.

The green wire with the white tracer, when grounded, should cause the over temperature icon to flash. Try it and see. Does your motor have an over temperature lamp? If so, more than likely it is grounded to turn it on. Maybe splice the green wire/white tracer wire to the ground lead for the over temperature lamp.

Make sure that the tachometer is set up for a four stroke motor.
