  • Source of Oil Leak Yamaha F350

Hello All. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to suggest possible sources of an oil leak that defies resolution.

I have a 2008 Yamaha F350 outboard. There is a small oil sheen seen in the water when the engine is raised. When the engine is running or off in the lowered position there is no oil in the water. If you tilt the motor up some oil comes up. When the engine is lowered no oil is seen. It is definitely not the trim or tilt motors nor is it the power steering. In addition, the oil in the engine shows no suggestion of water penetration .

My very capable mechanic is stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance
    David

could be spilled oil under the hood from oil changes or a corroded tilt shaft anchor.
