    rigging grommet diagram 2015

    hey guys.

    i have 2015 f175 and am trying to install trim / oil sender

    My question is there are a few spots on the rigging grommet you could try and pass the cable through. is there a diagram that shows what wires are designed to pass through what on the grommet? any help or a picture displaying where yours is passing through would be awesome.

    The service manual depicts the rigging grommet and the places where the various cables pass through.

    Surely you are not trying to perform service on a motor without a service manual???

    Next thing you will be trying to operate the motor without using the operators manual.

      yes i have been meaning to pick one up. all i can find is the 2014 175 hp manual. will this be the same for my 2015?

      it seems that there is a bigger hole to the right of the main grommet openings I used. cant see any harm in using it but not sure if it was for something else. Its certainly a tight fit no matter what hole lol that sounds bad

        There's also an "open" type grommet available. The inside is completely hollow... MUCH easier! It was available for my engine, I would assume it's available for yours? But I can't imagine that using a different hole would matter - if it fits, it fits.

          What is the part number for the "open" type grommet?

          What keeps water spray from going through it? if one does not use a rigging tube?

            I don't have the part number written down, but I bought it from SIM Yamaha - although I doubt they're the only ones that carry it. Yes, a rigging tube would be best, otherwise you'd probably want to backfill it with sealant. I suppose one would still want to do this if there were "empty holes" in a normal rigging grommet. Granted, the normal grommet would cover things up better than a completely open one.

              here is a picture of the grommet,

              I removed the two bolts on the right and the whole thing slid out, as you can see there is a hole to the right of the main grommet / holes where all the cable is going and my trim sender is going through that.

              I see another hole on the top right of the main grommet but couldn't figure out how to fit the whole plastic connector through that hole.

              Does this look like it will be ok or am I going to have an issue with cable location?

                take the hard black piece apart (2 halves) remove to 10 mm bolts and slid the grommet out towards you, there will be a "metal horseshoe" that keeps things nice slide that out. The grommet is split, open it up put the cable in (no need to try to fit the elephant thru the straw, and slide it back it.. Don't let all the other players get away from ya.

                    Yes it is a brand new motor from dealer, the cable you see my hand on is the one I passed through.

                    Whats wrong with the rigging?

                      I'm not familiar with your setup, but why does the rigging grommet not cover the entire hole?

                        it does. where you see the far right cord gi in there is a little rubber grommet which has a notch in it much like the other slots on the main round portion?


                        i realize no rigging tube but there is that mesh netting on the entire bundle a little further down you cant see. idk if thats normal to not have rigging tube for freshwater only use??

                        anything else weird on there? first time modern boat owner here so idk.

                          Oh, OK. From the picture, it was hard to tell that the 'hole' is sealed off. As long as the cable is free to move when the motor turns and tilts, and that it's not chaffing anywhere - good to go. As far a tube vs mesh goes... I suppose there's advantages either way. A plus to the mesh is that water can't get trapped in there... easier to rig, too.

                            While your engine is different than mine, here's some pic's of mine in that area. You CANNOT move the harness over at all (which appears to be odd on yours).

                            You can see we have the same clamping plastic round piece;

                            an F150

                              yes thanks for the reply, there are two 10 mm bolts to the right of the grommet that looks different than the model you posted. in between the top and bottom bolt there is one more hole that is rubber that you can pass a cable through and that is where I put the sender out of ease of passing the connector through.
