  • 2006 150 lower unit ?

    I have a 06 150 4 stroke and it wont come out of reverse I unhooked the cables and its just stuck in reverse and will not come out. before this happened it would grind going into gear sometimes or not go in gear at all . anyone have any ideals on what might be wrong? Also I can buy a 150 with a 20 inch shaft, but need a 25 inch shaft. Can you convert a 20 inch to a 25 inch? thanks for any help !!

    With the shifter cable un-hooked from the engine, try shifting the engine by hand (under the cowl, starboard side). You may need someone to slowly turn the prop while doing so. You want to verify if its the LU, control box or a mis-adjustment of the cable. If it still doesn't come out of gear with the cables disconnected, shifting by hand, something is amiss in the LU..

    Also, the shifter slide, in neutral, should have all the alignment bars(marks really) lined up and the cable adjusted to slip on without moving that(shifter also in neutral).

    Draining the LU oil and checking for metal particles will let you know for certain of internal damage...

    You should be able to convert the LU to a long shaft. You will need to install either your 25" main drive shaft (remove the shorter 20" shaft), longer shifter shaft (and you'll leave the 5" "spacer" you already have mounted to the mid section;

      Thank you townsendsfjr1300!!! I have unhooked the cables and tried shifting it out of reverse and there is no way will it move. so to drop the lower unit what do I have to do? Do I just unbolt the 6 bolts and pull it off ?
      Thanks!

        Those bolts and remove the adjustable trim tab. The bolt for that is under the small rubber boot atop the mid section

        Theres a bolt under there (I think it takes a 14mm socket, BOLT #8) that secures the LU to the mid section too..
