New wire harness, new ECU and installation of the fuel vapor recovery system and you will be in business.
Compare all of the power plant components on a 2006 model with those on a 2002 model and whatever the 2006 has that the 2002 does not have is what you will need to install. -

well lets see.
02 F225 is worth maybe 2500 bucks, 3000 tops.
new eco about 1200.
new wiring harness about 600.
new driver/regulator kit about 400 bucks
all the vapor recovery parts, about another 3-400.
speed/wp sensor kit another 150 or so.
the limited extra data isn't worth it.
if it was originally rigged with the correct 6y5 tach and speedo you already have speed, fuel level,trim indicate,overheat indicate,engine hours and low oil pressure indicate.
what more do you need on a 12 yr old outboard?Comment

Is this a better idea? I really want fuel numbers. I will abandon the n2K from one of the motors (2006) in lieu of just doing this to both....?

The Yamaha gauge will certainly provide the information that you want.
The is a Lowrance sensor that can be plumbed into the fuel lines so that fuel flow and consumption and economy can be displayed on an NMEA 2000 device.Comment

for 800 bucks plus installation labor.
I realize at WOT the F225 can burn roughly 25 GPH.
at about half WOT its going to burn about 10-12 GPH.
I can buy a lot of gas and cool refreshing beverages for 800 bucks.
the math calculations I can do fairly rapidly in my head.
but yes the Yamaha FMM is plug and play for that F225.Comment

Rod, out here in the PNW, going out 50+ miles offshore is the norm. But with only a 100gal fuel tank, and the probable necessity of an additional fuel tank, knowing how much fuel you've burned is no joke.
It appears that there are really a couple of real ways to get the data I need. Lowrance equipment is very very inexpensive. Not a fan. So, I will be going to Maretron for calibrated and reliable fuel usage. It will be $1000 but these last a lifetime. As well as being damn accurate out of the box.

here on our coast 50 mile runs are normal.
some guys run closer to 100 from port to fishing grounds.
the Yamaha FMM will interface with a speedo or GPS for more data than just GPH.Comment
