  • throttle friction, 704 standard flush mount

I have a 2003 flush mount throttle for a 150 2 stroke, the type that only the handle is visible and the box is in the gunnel. I need to know how to tighten the throttle. the screws that I found appear to be stop adjustments not friction adjusters. the box is mounted horizontally.

there is a large black plastic cover and a small one, which one do I need to remove? I will be reaching blind into the gunnel and would like to get it right the first time

in the Yamaha exploded diagram of the flush mount control, can you identify which item number is the correct screw?
        thank you

Are you sure we're talking about the same unit? My control mounts to the side wall, only the lever is exposed, I have attached some images and the Yamaha diagram. the guts are behind the wall, there are no black screws, and the only screws on the outside are the throttle stop adjusters. there are two black plastic covers on the backside of the unit, top right of the diagram, I assume the friction adjuster is under one of them but I don't know where. I have run my fingers all around the perimeter of the box, but the only screws I find are the stop screws.
thanks for your attention on this

is it a 6x3? as used in mastercrafts? side mount, round knob handle ?

He said 704 but a 704 is a top mount box. Not a side flush mount.

I didn't say 704, it is a flush mount like in the pictures in the previous post. I can't find any identifying info on it, it just says "Yamaha Remote Control" on the handle. I did find some pictures that show a manual with the unit. It appears that 6X3 is the current version and that I might have a 6X0, but I can't find any information on either of these. It's on a Wellcraft.

throttle friction, 2003 flush mount remote control

sorry, I just realized the title of the post says 704, not sure why. I changed it, thanks for pointing that out.

We sure did not put that 704 in your title as we cannot change your info, so you must have.

And it looks like you cannot change it either

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that, I am new to this forum and didn't know what the "title" line meant so I left it blank. somewhere I must have used that search and it got picked up. But in my question I didn't say it was a 704. At any rate, does anyone have an answer for adjusting the friction on the unit I do have?

I don't know however, under the center cover(on the lever itself), I would THINK, would be a good place to look for an adjustment screw. It shouldn't be a PIA to adjust..

If you call the boat manufacturer (or rigger if local), they may be able to tell you.

Part #11, shows a Throttle friction part, if that helps..

That exposed, flat head, screw that you can see on the backside... I take it that's not it? I honestly don't know, but that's where I'd start.

Second place would be as Scott mentioned, under the center cover... that off-center screw.

Third... those two long screws on the front side of the control box. Although, given that there's two, I would also 'guess' that there for the throttle hand throw.

Just FYI, I found it. The screw in the black Bezel that fits against the side wall and looks like its a mounting screw is actually the friction adjustment.
Thank You for all your efforts.
