  • Yamaha 25hp 2 Stroke, Electricity Question?

    Hi,

I have a 14ft boat with a 1999 Yamaha 25Hp 2 Stroke engine and need to install navigation lights, how can i get electricity from my engine? Can an alternator be installed? Does the motor generate electricity while it is running, if yes? how can I make use of it?

    Thanks you for your time

Your going to have to install a small battery (I assume its pull start ONLY, NO electric start).

The lights for the boat, have to attached to a 12 volt source (battery) which is charged by the engine, once its running. And yes it will charge the battery, it already has a charging system, no additional alternator is needed..

Someone else will have to chime in on which wires to attach to the battery (Positive and negative) for charging purposes.

Please post the MODEL # to the engine, it may be needed (should be on the transom bracket)..
