  • Yamaha 25hp 2 Stroke, Electricity Question?

    Hi,

I have a 14ft boat with a 1999 Yamaha 25Hp 2 Stroke engine and need to install navigation lights, how can i get electricity from my engine? Can an alternator be installed? Does the motor generate electricity while it is running, if yes? how can I make use of it?

    Thanks you for your time

can you post a model number?
some of the 25HP models had a lighting coil.
      some did not.

the above is well and guuuud, only if the motor HAS a lighting coil.
not ALL 25HP motors HAD one.
that's why I asked for a simple model number.
if your motor does NOT have a lighting coil my suggestion would be a solar charger.

And only if the model has the appropriate flywheel I believe. I see different rotors specified for manual starts that have no electrical output versus electric start models that do have an electrical output.

Folks seem to be scared to death to provide model identities. Don't know why. They must think their Yamaha is the only one in the world. Have they never gone to a parts store? First thing the guy needs is the make of the car, model of the car, year of the model, is it an automatic or manual, six cylinder or eight cylinder, etc., etc., etc..

I give folks what I got. They give me garbage in then I give them garbage out. Not intentionally but because they don't give this tired ole computer what he needs to do his calculations.

I particularly like the folks that say they have a 150 Yamaha and then start to discuss an engine oil filter. I tell them a 150 Yamaha does not use an engine oil filter. After much discussion it turns out they have an F150. Common across all forums it seems.
