  • digital tach: what do oil lights mean

Ok, I'm getting more confused reading the 101 posts on what oil lights mean on the 6Y5-8350T-82-00 I just bought. How's got the definitive answer on topic.

    on a two stroke.
far right bar, green lamp or arrow.
means sufficient oil in the remote tank and engine tank for normal operation.

center bar, yellow lamp or center arrow.
means REMOTE tank does NOT have enough oil for automatic transfer OR the engine oil tank is low(inline motors).

far left bar,red lamp far left arrow.
    engine oil tank is LOW.

    3 bars,lamps or arrows flashing.
remote tank has sufficient oil but the engine oil tank is low.
either a malfunction OR an initial fill.

OK...another oil question in my thread.

I'm studying the chart and it stated "check filter" but I seen no oil filter on this system. Where am I missing it?

The boat came to us with nothing inline from boat tank to engine tank...and I just chased from the oil tank into the engine and don't see anything obvious to me.

          What am I missing?

and how low is the oil sensor in that tank?

My buddy hooked up the tach and it is telling him that tank is low...he figured it's about 25-30% full...does that sound about right to trigger the tank sensor?

Lift the sensor from the tank.

With the float in the up position the green light/right side icon should be illuminated.

Move the float to the bottom position. The right light/icon should go out/disappear and the middle yellow light/icon should illuminate.

If the yellow light is illuminated automatic oil transfer will cease to happen.

Fill the tank and the yellow light should go out and the green light should illuminate.

OK. So the light system tells us the boat tank is low but it transfers oil as expected when called for. Just a bad sensor to replace or should I test something else.

the yellow lamp simply tells you there is an OPEN circuit between the remote tank and the tach.
                    nothing MORE nothing LESS.
is it the switch? a wire? a connector?
dunno. this is where common sense should take over.
