  • One cylinder not firing on '88 150 precision blend SWS

    Hello, hope u can help!
I bought an 88 Mako w original 88 150 sws flat top precision blend. Impeller, oil, water separator, hand pump (for gas) were replaced. I took the boat out several times and would run about 35-39 mph on the gps. The last time I took it out, it bogged and turned off while idle. I changed the spark plugs and one of them was not burned, it looked brand new compared to the others I had a mechanic take a look and he suggested replacing the coil. After replacing the coil i took it out for a test. The engine wouldn't turn over but I could hear the power running to the engine. I tapped the starter a few times and it started after that.
I checked the spark plug at the end of the day and it still wasn't burning. I had the mechanic come over again and he told me to replace the cdi. But at this point I'm starting to doubt the mechanic. He's just telling me to replace things. Before I invest in a new cdi, WHAT CAN I DO TO VERIFY THAT THE CDI IS IN FACT THE ISSUE??
CAN THE STARTER BE REPAIRED OR DO I NEED TO REPLACE IT??
Working...
