  • 30/40 Yamaha jet shifting cables

There are two shifting cables on my 2006 40/30 jet unit one from the shift lever to the reverse gate and another from the reverse gate to the original shift lever on the engine block next to the throttle linkage. This cable is seized. Since the motor does not have a gearcase and the shifting rod is gone, why do I need to replace this cable. It apparently goes to the shifting cam which activates the shift rod which is not there. The forward and reverse lockout runs off the tiller and is unaffected.

Remove the seized cable and see what happens.

remove the cable and run it.

then post about a loss of RPM.

the reason for the cable from the reverse gate to the engine is to activate the shift position switch.

EFI and DFI motors are rather picky about that switch.
