  • Carburetor dip question

    Hello All,

I previously cleaned my carbs, but was unable to get them perfect, good but not like new. This time I am planning to dip them in Berrymans Chem dip maybe overnight. This is for a 2004 F90.

    1. Do the throttle blades and shaft need to be removed? I wanted to make sure there was not a rubber seal in there, I would really prefer not to remove them.
The exploded view on the site did not detail out this area.

    2. Does anyone have experience with yamalube carb dip? other recommendations

Thanks in advance, you guys are always a big help!

The throttle valves do not need to be removed. But, the rest of the carburetors should be dismantled.

You might want to purchase a heated ultrasonic cleaner. Without the use of this device a proper cleaning job can be hit or miss.

A Vacuumate device is essential IMO to get the carburetors properly synchronized.

My experience with Berryman's is the longer you leave it in there the better. I soaked my F25 carb for about 48 hours. That and a kit and it ran like a spotted ape!

        Boscoe:

I've heard a lot about the ultrasonic. I'm just not so sure about buying some harry homeowner model and then it not working well. Is there a brand you recommend that is affordable for the average Joe ?

For syncing, I use a vacuum gauge to get it close, then a motion pro sync gauge to dial it in.

Thanks! I may just go for that.

Thanks for the tip on the Berrymans. I heard that they tell you to dip for about 1/2 hr......I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't ruin anything if I did longer. Did you leave the throttle plates and shaft in?

I'm pretty sure that I put everything in there that wasn't rubber or plastic. I really don't think a 1/2 hour will do much. Mine cam out looking brand new and it functioned as it should. You can always pull it out half way through and inspect it to see how it's looking.

I just recently did my 90hp carbs and used the GUNK brand carb cleaner. You can purchase it in a gallon can and it includes the wire parts basket. The parts were left in there for a couple of hours, then everything cleaned with compressed air. It worked great!
