Poppit valve...what would you do?

    Poppit valve...what would you do?

    89 200 gets warm but no overheat at idle. Tried to change poppit and first bolt snapped right off. Not leaking. I was going to leave it alone and just run it rather than deal with drilling bolts out.
    Maybe a good flush will clear the poppit?

    Has it ever been removed/checked/replaced?....if. It was me, and for peace of mind, I'd remove it, drill/tap/etc./whatever, and check/clean/replace it....maybe time to do the replace the thermostat and water pump....then you'll know what you've got!.....OR, you can just ignore it and wait for it to leak/overheat/whatever....

      I'm thinking of leaving it alone. If I get alarm I'll deal with it. This motor already has a pair of welding Vicegrips where a headbolt snapped off.Been there 3 seasons now. It's a Florida motor and every thing is corroded (shiftshaft was replaced). Runs perfect though....amazingly.

            Why would I blame Yamaha? I've gotten 24 years and over 1,000 hours of use.
            Part of being a mechanic is knowing what to leave alone. When that headbolt broke I stopped right there and had a motor that still ran. What if 5 of them broke? The one that broke is one of the lower ones (usually the case) and is below the lower cowl so I can't get to it to drill out.

              We'll, just run it on and hope for the best....Just curious, but how far off-shore do you usually go with this motor?...

                It's now in Chesapeake Bay just cruising around on a 31 Stamas. If it had stayed in FL it would be corroded through by now (heads, exhaust plate) I suspect.....

                  If it's just used for "local" traffic(5 or 10 mile radius) then maybe O.K.....keep your cell phone charged and handy....good luck!...
