  • 1993 yamaha 2 stroke starting instructions

whats the staring instruction for this motor ,the choke is a spring loaded toggle switch on dash. . so i take it hold choke switch up when staring engine then release when started. 50 to 1 mix or is that a prime switch on dash..

It depends on the motor. For those that have a solenoid activated choke (not all of them do) then when the motor is cold it helps to activate the choke using the toggle switch that you mention. Once the motor is running you might or might not have to use the toggle switch from time to time to help the motor keep running until it warms up.

Later model key switches have a push to choke function as part of the key switch. No toggle switch is used. You simply push the key to activate the choke.

can you give us a model number
not all Yamaha 2 strokes had a choke in 93 and some key switch panels still did.
some two stroke yamahas in 1993 had prime start which only requires a key turn.

Your motor has a solenoid activated choke.

If you use the pull choke handle at the front of the motor does it start more readily on a cold morning?

You might want to make sure that the solenoid is being activated when you depress the toggle switch.

Also, make sure that the linkages attached to the solenoid and the choke knob are hooked up and working correctly so that the choke mechanism is activated when either of the two devices are being used.

are you having problems starting this motor?
If you are then you will need to pull the cowling off motor and then the silencer off of the front of carbs so you can see what is happening with linkage and choke buterflies to make sure they are working properly.

normal procedure on a motor with a choke is to raise fast idle arm a little to give motor some air and then turn key to start while entergizing the choke while motor is turning over, release choke as soon as it fires if not before to make sure you do not flood it

Go here and look at this owner's manual for a 1998 C75. Yam does not have your owner's manual available but this will give you an idea. See page 2-4.

                        http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/s...-02-99_647.pdf

Don't be afraid to hold the toggle switch even after the motor has started running. Maybe keep it engaged for 15 seconds or so. If the motor starts to die upon releasing the switch then reactivate it.

Below are illustrations of the choke knob. First is from the owner's manual. Second is from the parts catalog.

I personally don't like to advance the throttle when trying to start a cold motor. There is already too much air for the amount of fuel available and advancing the throttle only lets more air in. It does nothing to increase the fuel amount.

Some remote control boxes have a choke function built into the key switch. You can press in the key while cranking the motor and that will activate the choke.

Some chokes on the other hand are activated by a toggle switch.

First there was the toggle switch and then Yam switched to the press-the-key choke configuration.

Just two different ways of doing the same thing.
