  • Yamaha 115 2 stroke alarm

    Gday all,

Hoping someone can help. I have a 96 mod 115hp Yamaha premix 2 stroke.
Engine will cruise all day around 4000rpm with no problems, start to push the engine a bit harder and eventually an alarm will sound on the control box and the engine seems to go into some sort of limp mode the revs die and the engine will idle for 30 seconds or so, Its still pumping a good stream of water and is not not overly hot once the alarm shuts off the engine will be fine unless pushed again into the higher rev range.

So far I have changed the Impeller and the pick up line even though they looked fine, can anyone advise what this might be, any help appreciated.

Yamahas have very small water passages, and they can get partially blocked quite easily, a common symptom is over heat at high RPM, you may have to remove the heads and any covers you can to clean them out, and then worry about bolts breaking off too. be 100% sure the entire water cooling system is OK, from the pump, (and housing) to the thermostats and the poppet valve, all can cause problems that you describe.

      yamaha 115hp 1988 issues

getting too much oil in carbs then lower cylinders pulled the oil pump and 2 yamaha said it is fine seals tight no wear on oring, sender unit is not working well may be a float issues as I have 2 exact 115hp ELTG yamahas should I switch the sending units as it just started smoking from 2 much oil

Had exact same problem. 1989 115 Yamaha. Changed Themos , Waterpump etc , etc !!!! Nothing helped. Then saw a post from "Central Texas". Did what he suggested and no more problems !!! Might be worth a read. http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/f...g-th19434.html

Gauges should indicate what the alarm is.

              might be oil level also
watch the oil level to see if you are using it faster than the pump will fill it back up under high RPM conditions.
There is a in line filter in oil line that can plug or a pinched oil line can restrict oil flow slowing things down

Gauges are non genuine and the motor is premix 2 stroke so no oil injection.

                  Thanks mate,

Have spoken with Rotec who is a distributor of this stuff will order 5 litres drop the leg and give this a go, have also spoken to a marine mechanic and he reckons the water pump housing could be worn which is what ausnolem suggested so when the leg is off Ill have a closer look at this as well.

                  Cheers
