    1991 85 hp water pump issues

    Have a 1991 85 hp that gives me an alarm and brings me to idle speed after probably less than 1 minute of WOT. I assume it is a water pump issue being as this motor has never had a water pump replaced since bought new in 1992. So I just purchased a rebuild kit and installed it, everything went pretty smooth. Tried it out with the hose and it pours water (like from a bucket) out the opening where the shift linkage is visable in the front of the motor!! Everything went back right and I was very cinfident in my work but this looks very wrong. Had a 90 hp yam sitting right with it so we tried it, not one drop came through it.

    What did i miss???

    Gromet / Water seal where water tube meets pump housing. Did you fit these ? Could be still sitting in the top of the old housing? You may have missed it ?

      Im pretty sure that I didnt miss it, cant be 100% positive but pretty sure, took it out today and it still gave me the over heat alarm at WOT after just a couple minutes. Guess its time to go to a pro, unless somebody knows something I dont.
