  • 2006 yamaha 200 Hpdi fuel sensor problem

I have a 2006 Yamaha 200 HPDI and it started idling rough so I brought it in and they changed all the filters. went back out on the water and it ran great for about 5 hours then began to idle rough again then tried to get on step and the motor started shaking and would not rev up but would idle fine, it was like it was not getting enough fuel so I brought it back to the shop they hooked it up to the computer and said it showed a fuel sensor code so he replaced the fuel sensor. I took the boat back out and it ran great for about 5 hours and then it stated idling rough again and when i tried to get up on step the motor would start shaking again like it was not getting fuel. If i let it shake for a while and played with the throttle it would eventually catch and run great but it did this every time I would stop and then try to get on step. As i kept doing this it would take longer and longer for the motor to catch and run till it would not get up on step at all. Went back to the shop they changed my high pressure fuel pump. Went back on the water and again ran great for about 5 to 7 hours then the same problem would start again. Went back to the shop and they said it was the fuel sensor again so they replaced it for the 3rd time. Took the boat out again and it ran great for about 5 to 7 hour then the problem returned just as always, it starts with idling rough then idles fine but want rev up. Please can anyone help this is costing me a lot of money and they can not find what the problem is. I was also told that the fuel sensor is not something that normally goes out.

Do you use gasoline with ethanol? What color is the fuel in your tank? Is it clear or colored by additives so that perhaps it is ****en, or does it look like iced tea? If like tea, then phase separation is the likely culprit.

no, repeat, absolutely no fuel codes that will make the engine run funky.
you or the tech now own a good sensor.
just cause it tossed a code doesn't mean its bad, could simply mean its doing its job.
if that HP pump cannot maintain 625 psi the sensor throws a code, however the engine doesn't care.
nothing in the ecu does anything for low fuel pressure.
