  • '03 Yamaha 250 HPDI no start

I have a pair of '03 250 HPDI motors on a boat in our shop that that will only run while cranking. They immediately shut down when the key switch is backed off to the run position. I have verified continuity at the key switch harness between the pink an red wires while the switch is in the run position. I have also verified continuity between the brown and red wires in crank position. The kill switch which is common to both motors has also checked out OK. I am really puzzled as to what possible common link these motors share that would cause this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

sounds like you are losing the 12v run signal to the main power relay when you release the key. in this instance a continuity test only tells you that there is continuity, 1 strand of 1 wire can give you this result,, sounds like a bad keyswitch to me.. try plugging in another one, even if it is single key switch, it would be a good starting point, the only thing both engines have in common is the dual panel key switch..
