  • yamaha 3.5 air cooled outboard .need advice please .

    hello everyone ...
i am very very new this this so please bear with me .
i have just bought myself a compass capri 2.6 inflatable with a yamaha 3.5 air cooled outboard . people are telling me this and that about how to start the engine . what is the correct way to start this engine . also what is the best mixture for this engine . what position should the start button be in right or left as the marking for the start position are worn off so i dont know which way it should be . are they an easy engine to maintain . which tilt position should in be in when it is mounted onto the boat . is there marking on the throttle that tell you which position it should be in when starting the engine as the one,s on mine are worn off . what speed should i be getting from this engine as it seems to be very slow at full throttle ..

thanks in advance to any reply,s . yammy 1961

need to ask you questions on a 1961 Yamaha where they had them.
Yamaha's did not hit the US until 1984 I think, so no one here has a clue about your motor

Try in your local Yamaha shop.
See if they can point you to a place to pick up a manual or info on that old motor

that motor was never imported into the states. I have only seen pictures of them.

Yamaha started importing US market outboards into the US about 1984. motors prior to that were not allowed to be imported.

occasionally we get oddball Yamaha stuff here in the US. typically coming up from the carribean or south America.
