  • Multifunction Gauge 6Y5-8350T-91

Have a question about selecting the mode (trip or engine hours) on this gauge. Does the engine have to be running before the you can select trip or engine hours on the display? I can't get it switch modes on the boat nor can I get to work on in the shop connected to 12v.

Trim works, tach works, light works, but the mode switch seems to just turn the hour meter off and on. Can't find a combination that will allow me to select trip or engine hours.

    The gauge is 6Y5-8350T-91
    Engine is a 2005 F90TLRD
Boat had a wiring harness from a 2004 (2 plugs) each end so I am using just one plug on each end.

Just want to rule out the slight possibility of an issue with the wiring harness before I return the tach.....

    Update:
Here are wire colors coming out of the Tach.

    Bullet Connectors:
Black, Blue, Yellow, Green. No issue here because the gauge powers up, and the tach works, etc. There is not a red wire as I've seen in some wiring diagrams.

    4 pin Male Plug:
    Gray to Pin 1
    Pink to Pin 2
Green with white stripe to pin 3
Green with red stripe to pin 4

Pink/pin 2 has to be correct because the trim indicator works.

the trip hours look like the engine hours,, push the mode button till the hours are off, push the mode button 1 time , this is engine hours and cannot be reset, push the mode button 1 more time, this is trip hours, push and hold the mode button and set button at the same time for about 3 seconds and it will reset to 0, hope this helps.

        May have figured it out

Does the tach pull the same engine hours as you'll see if you hook up the Yamaha YDS Diagnostic kit? If not, it may be working and I just didn't realize it. The mode switch does show 0 (zero) hours. The mode switch works as described above, it's just that I was expecting to see the same engine hours as in the computer.

Speaking of that, does anyone know what type of signal the engine sends the multifunction gauge? Sine wave, square wave, and amplitude? I have access to a function generator and could "preset" the engine hours with what's in the computer. They probably won't track precisely, but it would be a fun exercise on on a cold rainy day.

No, the tach has it's own internal clock that engine run time and will not be same as ECU times.
