    50 hp 2006 2 stroke Yamaha

    I have a couple questions and help with any of them is greatly appreciated.
    First one is my motor will not idle unless i flip/leave the red switch (choke) up. A couple months back i pulled my carbs and cleaned them. Do you think i need to adjust something or just clean them again? It seems to run fine at high speed. Low speed jet clogged???

    Second one is The red choke switch on the front of the carbs is bypassing the electrical choke solenoid???? Is this a simple fix as in buying a new solenoid and replacing it so when i push the key it activates the solenoid??
    Upon warming up 2-5 mins i usually turn the red switch down and it will run fine all day. It will Start right up and idle (usually) and no problems after the initial start up, or warm up.

    Third I am thinking about changing my remote motor to a tiller motor. I see the tiller arms running about 350 and then the wiring harness/linkages about 250 more. I would probably try and find a good used one. Looks to me to be doable since i can see where it would attach to the motor and i assume its then a matter of hooking it all up and adjusting everything. Has anyone on here ever did one? Tips? Pros/cons??

    Opps I forgot some details.

    This motor has the oil tank on it, 3 cylinder with PTT, 20 inch shaft. If need be i can get the Model number off the plate when i get home tonight.

      motor has no choke.
      the push function or toggle switch on the ign is meaningless on that motor.
      what positions are labeled on the air box?
      its a wax pellet electro-thermal valve.
      operates with stator lighting coil voltage.

        Open and closed are labeled on the the front not sure as to when it is on ether

        I hope these pictures open up. When the red handles are at the 12 oclock and 3 oclock position this is for getting her started in the mornings ( like a choke but you said no choke) after running a few minutes i turn them so the red handles are at the 3 o clock and 6 o clock position and she runs fine all day, starting and stopping.
        Now i was going to pull my carbs off today and clean them again but it seems she is idling longer the more i run it. So maybe i am passing something slowly?? Also it appears my idle is a tad low , what is the best way to increase my idle?

          You can scroll down to where it says manage Attachments, click on that and then find the pic to attach it

          Once you clean the carbs properly you need to sync and link the carbs like the service manual states, every time you reinstall the carbs.

          If you do not clean the fuel tank,lines, bulb, and fuel pump before installing the clean carbs then there is a good chance that some trash or water hiding in there will hit the carbs as soon as you pump the fuel into the carbs

            Me again

            I appreciate the help. I got her idling and purring again. But so what i am gathering from the above info that if i replace the electro-thermal valve the next time i go to start this all i do is fire it up and it will adjust to what is needed at the time?? Like an automatic choke ( but its not a choke)???

              if the electro-thermal valve is bad it would need to be replaced.
              But you need to test it like the service manual calls for to see if it is bad.

                Ok i will hook it up to 12 volts tomorrow and see if it moves. And check the resistance. But in theory this takes care of the old fashion choking, except its automatically done???

                  yes it allows extra fuel to flow when cold and as it heats up the needle closes off the extra fuel.

                    Well i tested it on a 12 volt battery for 5 mins and it heated up and extended?
                    Now what??? lol it works. Why would i need to turn that red switch and instantly she fires up, i let it run there for a minute then flip it back down and she will idle roughly for a few mins and then smooth out as it warms up.

                      Also if i do not flip the red switch she will crank and crank, i dunno if i have ever tried starting it without flipping that switch ( cold that is). It just will crank and crank and i know by taking the cowling off and flipping that switch it will fire up instantly.

                        You do realize it has 3 positions right?
                        Normal, open and closed.
                        I needs to be in normal for the system to function properly and the fast idle lever should be left in the down position.

                        Maybe you need to clean the carbs better and follow the link and sync procedure in manual after reinstalling them

                            Try to turn the red lever counter clockwise from the open position.

                            That is where my C40TLRX switch sits in normal position, I would think your motor would be the same. But it is a newer motor, so maybe they changed things up.

                            I believe the silencer cover has a sticker showing the 3 positions, I will have to go look at mine again to make sure

                              if i turn it counter clockwise it will put the red levers at the 3 and 12 oclock position. That is where i put it to first start it and after 1 min i turn it back to the 6 and 3 oclock position and she purrs like a kitten. But i have adjusted it to fit that position?? If you would please look at yours and let me know, thank you. Or if anybody out there has one and can chime in please do.
