  • 25HP 2 stroke charging system?

I just got a new 2009 25hp 2 stroke, tiller and manual start Yamaha motor.
What I'd like to know is; if my motor can charge a small battery? Is those two wires unconnected under the cover there to supply voltage?

All i know is that the owner's manual says 80 watts alternator

You would need to install a rectifier, number 11 in this diagram Yamaha Outboard Parts 2006 and Later 2-stroke 25ELH 6L2K-1027048 ELECTRICAL 2 Diagram
You would have connect a wire to red wire on rectifier and run to positive post on battery, connect ground wire to engine block and to negitive post on battery.

I've got the same engine, but mine is electric start. I would like to hook a tachometer to the motor to get some WOT readings so I can get the best prop for this motor, however, I haven't figured out where I need to splice the tach's sending wire into to get it to work. I think I am supposed to connect inline to the voltage regulator/rectifier, but I am not exactly sure where that is. Here is a pic of the wiring on my motor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You have driven into a ditch. Not a pot hole.

Start your own post. Not considered in good form to jump on and ride another fellows post. Particularly one that is five years old.

When you create the new post, please provide the complete model identity. There was more than one 25 HP two stroke offered in 2009.

My bad. I didn't want to bog down the boards with additional threads and I thought my question was somewhat related.

              I'll start a new thread.
