trim guage trim sender

looked at the trim sender for my 2002 150 yamaha hpdi and saw that the sender (ring) broke. Slid it off and order replacement. Any suggestions on how to put the new one on without breaking it?

It can be opened enough to go over tilt tube just make sure it positioned right so you don't have to take it back off.
