Charging battery from Manual Start 4 stroke

Hi. We've got a manual start 15hp fourstoke motor and we want to charge a 120AH battery from it. Can anyone help?

The engine has a rectifier. The books say you mustn't run the engine without the rectifier connected to the battery and the engine has been used without the output being connected to anything.

Do we need to fit a regulator? Is the rectifier already burnt out?

Any guidance will be appreciated.
